Though later turned into a rigid set of rules, Confucianism in its original form was pretty simple. The Chinese teacher, politician and philosopher, Confucius advocated virtuousness in all aspects of life and held exemplary action over words in high regard. He believed in family loyalty and respect shown to elders. His principle was that a healthy, morally upright family automatically led to the formation of a healthy state. Confucianism was mostly secular in nature and is still followed to this day. Here are some pearls of wisdom from the mouth of Confucius which ring true even today.

As the ‘Great Sage’ himself said, “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”
