With Stannis’ death all but confirmed and Tommen Baratheon calling a truce with the Faith, the Baratheons seem to be on a downward spiral to doom in Westeros. With the Targaryens coming back to power, with the help of Khaleesi’s antics, the power shift from the Baratheons to the Targaryens is extremely apparent.
We’ve all seen the general discontent among the Westerosis when it comes to the Targaryens. We’ve all heard about Robert’s Rebellion against the Mad King. This paints a picture that the Baratheons must hate Targaryens.
But did you know that the Baratheons are related to the Targaryens?
Princess Rhaelle Targaryen was the youngest child of King Aegon V Targaryen and Queen Betha Blackwood. She was married to Lord Ormund Baratheon of Storm’s End. Basically, Rhaelle is Robert Baratheon’s grandmother.
Princess Rhaelle’s marriage might be a direct link between the two big houses but what’s surprising is the fact that if you delve deep into the history of Westeros, you’ll find out that all Baratheons have Targaryen blood in them.
Orys Baratheon, who was rumoured to be Aegon I’s bastard half-brother, married the Storm King’s daughter, Argella, and founded House Baratheon. Orys, the first Baratheon had Targaryen blood.
The first Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, is rumored to be Aegon I’s bastard half-brother but there’s no actual confirmation about this. But then there are a lot of rumours in the Game of Thrones universe and seeing how the latest season has confirmed almost all of those theories, this doesn’t seem like a distant dream.
