We have all read and heard about the ongoing Hrithik-Kangana spat that has taken an ugly turn in the media. The revelations and accusations have made for perfect fodder for Twitter to show its ugly face. In fact, this is not the first time users on Twitter relentlessly showed insensitivity towards a celebrity.
But what bothers us is the fact that a hashtag as tasteless as #CharacterlessKangana started trending on Twitter and had thousands of people contributing to it.
this woman is a sociopath and needs to be behind bars! #Nuffsaid #CharacterLessKangana

It all started after Adhyayan Suman, Kangana’s ex, made certain allegations on Kangana Ranaut terming her obsessive. Now when someone’s personality is alleged, it becomes a very very personal matter. That denies any of us the right to pass judgment on the subject’s personality.
But that’s not how Twitter works, does it?
Being the unfiltered medium that Twitter is, users openly embraced their insensitivity towards Kangana Ranaut like they were almost waiting to say distasteful things about the actress, like the actress has personally caused Twitter users harm.
And honestly this is not about taking sides. We don’t care who wins this ugly battle: Hrithik or Kangana. But we care when our educated internet-equipped generation stoops down so low. Almost makes us question if this is the generation that’s going to impart wisdom to their children tomorrow.
#CharacterLessKangana she has lost her mind seems that she has no work left😒 @iHrithik

Things got so ugly that Hrithik Roshan, who’s in fact at loggerheads with Kangana, had to come out in the open and urge people to stop calling Kangana “characterless”.
It is characterless to judge another. Whatever may be the case. Strangle d anger. channelize love

How did we mess up so bad as a generation?
Know what’s worse? That it’s not even the first time something like this has happened.
Remember when Virat Kohli couldn’t score a century and the users on Twitter blamed Anushka Sharma for it? Blame is actually an understatement for the kind of things that were said for Anushka Sharma.
Just a Gentle Reminder : Anushka Sharma is in stadium. #IndvsSA

If Kangana Ranaut is obsessive or has another personality trait, that’s her business. You, me and everyone else on Twitter has no, absolutely no right to label her as “characterless”.
It all boils down to the luxury Twitter gives its users to say just about anything. While this luxury is our weapon to bring about change, we never miss an opportunity to exploit this luxury.
Unfortunately, this won’t be the last time an actress is labeled something horrible by the supposed educated lot on Twitter.
