The actors on Game of Thrones are always going to be a part of television history. The iconic show is known for its spot-on casting and each actor on the show is carefully selected. The show recently finished its seventh season but across these seven seasons, there have been several actors that have been recast. Sometimes it was done because of unavailability and at other times it was done because the character had turned a little older.
Here are 10 GoT characters that have been played by two or more actors:
1. The Night King
Until the fifth season, the Night King was played by Richard Brake. Season 6 onwards, this character was played by Slovakian stunt actor, Vladimir Furdik.
2. Dickon Tarly
In Season 6, Dickon was played by the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince actor, Freddie Stroma. But scheduling conflicts with other projects did not allow him to come back to Game of Thrones. The character was then played by Tom Hopper in Season 7.
3. Beric Dondarrion
The man from the Brotherhood without Banners was first played by David Michael Scott. But as soon as the character became a key figure on the show, the part was recast and Richard Dormer was hired for the role.
4. Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane
This character has been played by three actors so far. In Season 1, Australian actor Conan Stevens played this role. In Season 2, Welsh actor Ian Whyte played the character. Season 4 onwards, this character has been played by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson.
5. Three-Eyed Raven
The three-Eyed raven was first played by Struan Rodger in Season 4. The role was then recast and Swedish actor Max von Sydow came on board to play the pivotal role.
6. Daario Naharis
In Season 3 , the character was played by Ed Skrein. Season 4 onwards, Michael Huisman started playing Daario Naharis.
7. Myrcella Baratheon
Jaime & Cercei’s only daughter, Myrcella, was earlier played by Aimee Richardson. The character was then shown as a grown up girl and hence, the role was recast and Nell Tiger Free played the part.
8. Tommen Baratheon
Callum Wharry played the role of Tommen Baratheon in the first two seasons. Later, when the character was developed and was shown to be a little older, Dean-Charles Chapman stepped in to play the character.
9. Selyse Baratheon
Stannis Baratheon’s wife, Selyse was first played by Sarah MacKeever but that appearance lasted for only one scene in Season 2. Tara Fitzgerald played the role when the character was integrated into the main story line.
10. Rickard Karstark
Robb Stark’s bannerman, Rickard Karstark was played by Steven Blount in the first season. In Seasons 2 and 3, the character was played by John Stahl.
