Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh unveiled his wax statue at Madame Tussauds, Delhi today and with this, he becomes the first turbaned Sikh celebrity to get the honour.

Diljit took to social media to make the happy announcement.

Dressed in a black tuxedo for the event, Diljit said that he could never have imagined that he will get to see this day. A report from India Today quoted him as saying:

Forget about having a wax figure here, I had almost given up hope of even entering Madame Tussauds.

He also said that he wanted to visit Madame Tussauds in London once but he could not. So he thought if he enters the museum, he will enter this way.

There was a long line. I was in London for a day, so couldn’t find the time. I tried again, but the attempts were not successful. Then I thought, I will go in like this only.

Anshul Jain – associated with the Delhi Museum – told Indian Express in an interview that Diljit was an ‘obvious choice’ for them.

As a young trendsetter and talented artist with a huge fan following, Diljit was an obvious choice for us. He is the first turbaned figure to be featured at Madame Tussauds. The entire journey from sitting session till the creation of his final figure has been very special for us. The earlier cancellation of the unveiling in keeping with the national sentiments has doubled the craze among his fans who are eager to meet him.

It is a big accomplishment indeed and we hope there is no going back from here.
