The season finale of Game of Thrones was surely a treat for us. Cersei literally burnt King’s Landing and took over the Iron Throne. Jon Snow is now the King of the North and Arya Stark crossed another name off of her list.

Long story short, the episode was everything that we could have asked for.

The confirmation of the most popular theory happened in this episode, R+L=J.

Jon Snow’s birth parents were finally revealed. After a teaser in the third episode, we finally saw what events took place inside the Tower of Joy where Lyanna Stark died.

Jon’s birth parents have been kept secret since the beginning of the series. The book readers were thoroughly convinced that he is the child of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen but George R.R. Martin never put it out in those words.

Only two survivors were left after the battle that took place outside the Tower of Joy; Ned Stark and Howland Reed (Meera and Jojen Reed’s father). So far, Howland has never spoken about the rebellion to his children and Jojen tells this to Bran when they talk about Robert’s Rebellion. Howland Reed was a trusted confidante of Ned Stark.

It is safe to assume that the only living man who knows about Jon’s parentage is Howland Reed.

After all, it was a secret that Ned could never even tell his wife. A secret that led Catelyn to believe that the honourable Eddard Stark had slept with another woman.

But then in this episode, we saw this…

b’Two women can be seen standing on the side.’

And this…

But most importantly, this…

b’A handmaiden is handing over baby Jon to Ned Stark.’

There were two handmaidens with Lyanna Stark as she lay in a pool of blood!

We can see two women in the first photograph. One of them hands new born Jon to Ned Stark. His birth was a secret that Ned took to his grave.

If two women were present at the scene, they must know about the boy who was born in the Tower of Joy.

Lyanna asks Ned to never share this secret with anyone and we can hear her telling Ned that if Robert Baratheon finds out, he will kill the boy. If these two women saw the birth of Jon Snow, they would have told someone about it and the secret would have gotten out. Assuming that they were killed later, they would have traded their lives for a secret this big.

After all, Jon can carry the Targaryen line forward. The family that Robert wiped out from Westeros.

Even Daenerys and Viserys were sent far away from Westeros just so they could escape Robert’s wrath.

The presence of these handmaidens is certainly the biggest mistake we have seen so far on the show and that too with a theory that has teased the viewers for years now.

Don’t you agree?
