After successfully directing two successful biopics, Shahid and Aligarh, filmmaker Hansal Mehta is all set to produce a film based on Manipur’s Iron Lady Irom Chanu Sharmila, who ended her 16-year long hunger strike against the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the state on Tuesday.
Confirming the news, a source told Midday,
“The filmmaker is known for chronicling true incidents and taking on controversial subjects. He had been closely following the Iron Lady’s struggle over the years and finds her never-say-die spirit remarkable. He has a near-complete script, but will now have to tweak it suitably. He has decided to produce the film and soon zero in on a director.”

The film has been titled ‘Imphal’ and will be directed by Vikas K Dwivedi. Mehta will reportedly start working on the film as soon as he completes his on-going project Simran.
The actress who would get to play the Iron Lady is yet to be finalised!
