Long before there was Masaan, there was a corporate job in Tech Mahindra.

Neeraj Ghaywan, co-writer and director of the beautiful film Masaan was a lot like you, me and a lot of people from our generation. He had a knack for the creative medium of audio-visual storytelling but was stuck in a corporate job.

Before you watch the video below, here’s some context:

Neeraj Ghaywan was an engineer, who, like most engineers, pursued his MBA from a tier-1 B-school in Pune. After completing his MBA in marketing, he secured himself a high-paying job in Tech Mahindra. Ample inflow of money kept his hunger for the creative tamed.

Like most of us, this didn’t last very long and he went through what all of us go through: frustration, bitterness and existential crisis.

It was during this time that he was simultaneously writing on films for the mecca of film blogs called Passion For Cinema. That’s where he came in touch with Anurag Kashyap.

Here’s how it transpired from there:

And five years later, Masaan happened. The rest as they say, is history.
