But perhaps the best contribution by Netflix India has been the Netflix Hindi originals, that have allowed for an expression not marred by incessant, and at times, irrelevant censorship. 

Something, we as Indian audience, most definitely needed. 

Netflix India currently has three originals. Two movies, namely Love per Square Foot and the anthology Lust stories, and a web series, Sacred Games, all 8 episodes of which will release on Friday, July 06. 

And with every original, Netflix has pushed the boundaries of conventional Indian cinema and brought to the forefront intelligent stories and exceptional acting.

With Love per Square Foot, we were treated to a romantic comedy that neither stuck to the conventional Hindi feature film length nor depended on clichéd plotlines. It was fit for a relaxed night in, the ideal Netflix and chill kind of romantic comedy.  

Then came the anthology Lust stories, and we were absolutely floored, not just by the diversity of the stories but also by how relatable each story felt. 

And while there were various parts in which lust stories excelled as an anthology, its biggest win was that it finally got the discussion on the Indian female desire for sex in the open. 

The latest in the Netflix original trilogy is the web series Sacred Games, based on the thriller novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra. 

Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, and starring Nawazzuding Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles, the series garnered considerable attention as soon as the trailer dropped. 

The Netflix original movies left an indelible impact on the audience and the first episode of Sacred Games further proved that there is a keen audience ‘lusting’ for fresh and original content and Netflix can deliver it.

The extremely graphic first scene sets the tone of the episode, and there is a palpable sense of mystery running throughout – the kind that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

While Radhika has a brief role to play in the first episode, Saif and Nawazzudin shine as the apparent protagonist and the antagonist respectively. 

The end of the episode not only leaves you shocked but also drives the desire to binge-watch the series the moment it releases. 

Whether the series hold up to the excellence of the novel and the expectations that the first episode has cast will have to be seen. 

Netflix further plans to introduce 3 new series, ranging from ‘the scary to the supernatural’ to showcase the wide diversity of Indian storytelling. 

And going by how it has excelled in the 3 different genres it has already ventured into, we can’t wait but help but get our hopes up. 

For now, binge-watching on Sacred Games on a Friday night seems like the perfect plan!
