The trailer of Andy Serkis’ rendition of Mowgli is out, and it looks nothing if not promising. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s celebrated masterpiece, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle is set to be released globally on Netflix on December 7.

And the voice and motion-capture cast is as star-studded as it gets.

Christian Bale plays Bagheera the Panther, Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing Shere Khan the Tiger, Freida Pinto as Messua, Matthew Rhys as John Lockwood and so on. Rohan Chand will join this brigade in the role of the titular orphan, as a newcomer.

This one character from olden but golden days, never fails to impress. We know how the story’s gonna end, we know what’s it about, but the promise of being reminded of childhood days strikes a resonance so strong, that we can’t help but be excited about this all over again.

However, unlike its predecessors this is a darker retelling of the novel. 

According to Deadline Hollywood, Serkis says,

“It was always meant to be PG-13, and this allows us to go deeper, with darker themes, to be scary and frightening in moments. The violence between animals is not gratuitous, but it’s definitely there. This way of going allows us to get the film out without compromise.”
