Academy awards 2017 paid tribute to Bollywood’s veteran actor Om Puri, who passed away after a massive heart attack in Mumbai this year, in its In Memoriam segment.
Deceased Hollywood artists Carrie Fisher, Prince, Gene Wilder, Michael Cimino, Patty Duke, Garry Marshall, Anton Yelchin, Mary Tyler Moore, Curtis Hanson and John Hurt are among those who were featured in this segment.
Actress Jennifer Aniston introduced the segment, and got choked up with tears while paying a special tribute to Paxton, who died earlier and was not included in the video montage.
The segment ended with Fisher as Princess Leia, saying, “May the Force be with you.”
While photos and clips played on the screen, Grammy and Tony-nominated singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles performed a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.”
