Sony Entertainment Television show Pehredaar Piya Ki has been in the eye of a storm for a month now for its storyline, where a nine-year-old boy is married to an 18-year-old girl.

After the TV ombudsman received close to 140 complaints from viewers last month, more than one lakh people signed an online petition, which was initiated in the pretext of asking the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to ban the controversial fiction show for promoting child marriage.

The Broadcasting Content Complaints Council, therefore, on Thursday directed the channel to change the airing slot from 8.30 pm to 10 pm and also asked them to run a disclaimer.

Now, accepting the order, the channel has released an official statement according to a report filed by Hindustan Times.

“As per the decision of BCCC we are shifting the time slot of Pehredaar Piya Ki to 10 pm. The change will reflect from August 22 onwards,” said an official statement from the channel.

Meanwhile, the show is also all set to take a 12-year leap in October.

Speculations were rife that the decision of taking a call on the leap in the controversial fiction show came after the widespread outrage.

However, a source has been quoted by HT as saying “The leap will happen at the scheduled time. It’s not that this leap is happening because of all the controversy or the petition that has been filed. The leap was always supposed to take place in October, three months from the day —July 17 — the show went on air.”
