The setting was very Wild Wild West. We watched with bated breath as the goons made their way inside the tavern.

As they took out their guns, we knew they meant business.

We knew trouble was brewing.

One by one, they took their best shots at our hero. They aimed for his face, his arms, his ankles.

They thought they had succeeded in wiping him out.

But our hero didn’t fall.

We watched in awe as he started grooving to the beat, like it was nobody’s business! And at that very moment, a star called Prabhu Deva had been born for us 90s kids.

If there’s one thing we’ll eternally be thankful to Channel V and MTV for, it is giving us Prabhu Deva.

Prabhu Deva, who was electricity personified every time he took on the dance floor.

Humara photos

YouTube has made everything too easy. Back in the times before the internet made everything search-able, Prabhu Deva’s song playing on TV used to be an event for us.

We’d surf channels hoping to catch a glimpse of his cool moves.

T-series

We would spend hours imitating his moves, trying to perfect them.

And every time we were even close to success, boy, did we feel on top of the world!

Today, kids follow Justin Bieber, Usher, Chris Brown and anybody else who can shake a leg. They will never understand what Prabhu Deva meant to us back then.

True, we had Govinda, but Prabhu Deva was a different beast.

Yes, Prabhu Deva was cool. He was perhaps the only dancer of his generation who made dancing look really effortless.

He was the only dancer who made dancing look like his second nature.

The only dancer, who did justice to the beats given to him.

Today we have talented dancers like Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, but I dare say Prabhu Deva still remains at the top of his game.

Prabhu Deva is still a class apart and he’ll always remain so.

It’s like he has no bones in his body.

I mean seriously, just look at that.

Also, I personally think it’s very unfair that he’s compared to Michael Jackson. In my eyes, he’s so much more than the ‘Indian Michael Jackson’.

The way he has re-invented himself over the years, speaks volumes about his versatility.

Let’s hope he continues to inspire new dancers for years to come.
