Priya Prakash Varrier made news with her viral wink in the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi from Oru Adaar Love but the song also attracted criticism for “hurting sentiments of the Muslim community.”

A letter was later sent to the CBFC demanding the imposition of a ban on the song.

She has filed a plea against the case registered in Telangana saying it’s against freedom of speech and expression. In a plea submitted before the apex court, Varrier’s counsel requested the court to list the matter for urgent hearing, reported Indian Express.

Minister Pinarayi Vijayan defended the song on Facebook saying that it is pure intolerance against an artistic creation and also stated that the complaint against it is “not accidental”.

The petition is expected to be taken up on Tuesday by a bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra.
