As far as actors go, there’s been plenty of talk about the ‘shelf life’ of a female actor. And even as it is true for a majority of the women working in Bollywood, some actors like Sridevi, Juhi Chawla and Vidya Balan have defied the status quo by hunting down meaty parts in a film which might not necessarily be ‘woman-centric’.

Sridevi relaunched her career with Gauri Shinde’s well-observed English Vinglish. Too experienced to get overwhelmed by the success of her comeback film, she did not go on a film-signing spree. She’s taken her time with her second film, Ravi Udyawar’s Mom, which will release almost 5 years after English Vinglish. The first trailer, even though intriguing, lacked the bite of a good thriller. Happy to report, that is hardly what you can say about the second one.

Steely-eyed, the veteran actor goes about her job of avenging her daughter with an unnerving, cold focus. Here’s the second trailer of Mom:

The film is being directed by debutante Ravi Udyawar, while the music is composed by none other than AR Rahman. Mom releases on July 7, 2017.
