Much before Alia Bhatt danced her way into our hearts with Gulabo, it was Vaani Kapoor who set our heartbeat racing with Gulabi. Marking her entry in Bollywood with Shuddh Desi Romance opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, Vaani caught the attention of both critics and audience alike.
However, despite a dream debut, we didn’t see much of Vaani on the big screen. She didn’t sign any new film and there were stories around how she would fade away from public memory faster than anyone could have imagined.
But she’s back and how! Starring as the female lead opposite Ranveer Singh, Vaani returns to the limelight with Aditya Chopra’s Befikre. While the film releases on December 9, its posters featuring Ranveer and Vaani locking lips with gay abandon have grabbed many eyeballs already.
Even as you wait for Vaani’s big-ticket year-end blockbuster to hit the screens, here are a few things you must know about the girl who’s suddenly the talk of the town!
1. She holds a Bachelors degree in Tourism Studies from Indira Gandhi National Open University.

2. She’s been a popular model before entering films.
Vaani got her first break in modelling when she was signed by the prestigious Elite Model Management agency. Elite groomed her for the profession and as a model, she walked the ramp for various fashion weeks for all the top designers.

In 2009, she starred as the lead protagonist in a mini TV series called Rajuben. It was part of a special series directed by Anurag Kashyap called Specials@10 that aired on Sony TV.
4. Vaani swept all awards for debut film Shuddh Desi Romance.
If debuting with a YRF movie was not big enough, Vaani also won almost every Best Debut award that year for her performance in Shuddh Desi Romance. From Filmfare and Screen Awards to IIFA and Zee Cine Awards, the lady won ’em all.
5. She starred in the Tamil remake of Band Baaja Baaraat.
After making her debut in Bollywood, Vaani took Kollywood by storm with the BBB remake. The movie was titled Aaha Kalyanam and it was a treat to watch Vaani in a chirpy and vibrant avatar!
6. Vaani is a popular face in advertising and has featured in various TV commercials.
Be it her bridal look in Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Jewellery ad or her urban-chic look in the Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk commercial, Vaani has pulled all her avatars effortlessly. The fact that she’s fresh and drop-dead gorgeous naturally helps.

With such a strong family background in business, Vaani’s determination to carve her own path is commendable. And going by her relentless attitude to succeed, we can vouch for the fact that she takes her career seriously.
8. She had to undertake extensive workshops for 6 months before she was signed for Befikre.
Turns out, being a Yash Raj protege doesn’t guarantee you a film on the platter either. Before Aditya Chopra signed her on for his upcoming film Befikre, he put Vaani through extensive workshops. As part of these workshops, Vaani had to prepare one English scene and one English song every week for 6 months under the tutelage of Yash Raj’s casting director Shanoo Sharma.
