Who doesn’t use excuses? If there’s one thing that a middle class person needs the most from time to time, it is a good excuse. I’ve been making excuses since I was in school up till now when I’ve started working. But coming up with a good excuse is an art in and of itself and needs to be practiced to be perfected. Luckily, I have been practicing for quite a long time. From feigning illness to get out of going to school to making excuses for coming late to work, I have been polishing my excuse making skills diligently.

So you can imagine my delight when I found out about #OnlyExcuseOctober

So apparently, there’s this new trend on the internet called #OnlyExcuseOctober that is encouraging people to hone their excuse making skills and use them liberally in daily life to keep things sorted. I got really curious about it once I saw it on Twitter & a couple of other platforms and decided to do some digging.

So where did this trend start and how did it come to be?

This trend is an homage to Srikant, a character played by Manoj Bajpayee in a show called The Family Man. In it, Srikant is a middle class guy who also happens to be a world class spy. As a result, he is forced to be a professional bahaanebaaz and comes up with some far fetched excuses to everyday life scenarios to maintain familial peace and keep himself out of trouble. I found a video from Srikant himself celebrating “the art of the excuse,” exhorting people to make excuses liberally and celebrate this month as #OnlyExcuseOctober. Here it is.

Twitter has gone nuts for #OnlyExcuseOctober…

It’s official. Tweeple have gone nuts for #OnlyExcuseOctober. Even some celebs are getting in on the action and talking about the trend. Here are just a few.

So what are you waiting for? It’s the festive season and leaves are in short supply. Either you’ll have to get really creative with your excuses or do some overtime to make up for the leaves you’re going to take. Let’s not explore the second option, shall we? So if you’re new to the bahaana game or just not that good at it, use the The Family Man Excuse Generator on Messenger and get Srikant level excuses to escape from tricky situations at work.
