Earlier this year in January, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani was accused of sexual assault.
Twitter is lashing out on Filmfare’s decision to include Hirani’s name in the nominations.
Despite everything their audacity to nominate Rajkumar Hirani. @filmfare is a sellout and bonafide trash!— LoveYouGlennClose (@vedant123) March 12, 2019
So, @filmfare has nominated @RajkumarHirani even when he has sexual harassment allegations against him and @MumbaiFilmFest dropped @anuragkashyap72 's Short film which had no connection with Phantom or Vikas Bahl. Such boot-lickers @jiteshpillaai @raghuvendras— Anshul गुप्ता (@niSHULk_opinion) March 12, 2019
Netizens claim that the nomination does a disservice to the #MeToo movement.
Filmfare nominated Rajkumar Hirani for best director?!!?!??! TELL ME AGAIN HOW MEN'S CAREERS ARE RUINED BECAUSE OF METOO ACCUSATIONS???— Gayathri Yadati (@gayathri_yadati) March 14, 2019
If Bryan Singer had been nominated for an Oscar, or Harvey bloody Weinstein, @TheAcademy would’ve been lambasted into oblivion.— Sahir. (@sahiravik) March 14, 2019
But in India, we nominate Rajkumar Hirani for a @filmfare award barely two months after he was accused of sexual harrassment.
How on earth can you nominate Hirani ? Even after all the allegations against him in public space …— Anup Shetty (@1anup) March 12, 2019

Filmfare has not revealed any names of the jury that decides on the nominations. They reportedly take place after considering ‘audience votes and jury recommendations’.
