“Every fairytale needs a good old-fashioned villain.” Jim Moriarty was evil but he was right. Villains are what always made heroes great. The world of TV and cinema has often given us unstoppable forces trying to destroy civilisation and the only ones standing in their ways are a few immovable objects. And here are a few of the best.

1. Both gentlemen are smart, attractive sociopaths involved in a game of chess with everyone around them as pawns.

 2.  Both are the forefathers of the mutant revolution. While one wants to co-exist, the other prefers taking the throne for his own kind.

3.  Bound by the power of love and the lack of it, this is a story about a boy who gave up everything to fight a bigoted tyrant.

4.  The God amongst men and a man strong willed enough to destroy his image, Superman and Lex Luthor is the ultimate fight between hope and despair.

5. This is a story of two masked men, two symbols of order & chaos. This rivalry is so fitting that it is almost poetic.

6. Two brothers that cannot die, equal to each other in almost everything. This a brawl the world would pay to watch.

7. Agent Smith is a testimony to the fact that no matter how many times good wins, evil will always come back stronger.

8.  Two men equally powerful trained by the same cult, fighting on opposite sides. There was simply nothing better to watch if you are a 90s kid.

9. Gabbar was pure evil, who took everything away from Thakur. Thakur was the mastermind who planned his revenge and executed it in one of the best dramas of all time.

10.  A British tyrant challenges an Indian farmer for a cricket match to triple the taxes of his entire village. What followed was a story that needs to be told again and again.

11. Ramadhir Singh and Faizal Khan were both evil men by nature. Ramadhir Singh killed three generations of his family. Faisal, in return, emptied an entire arsenal on him on a chamber pot.

12. Before SRK did shit movies, he acted in serious thrillers like Baazigar. Ajay, the antihero, murders his way to vengeance before dying himself.

13. Mr India and Mogambo will go down in history as the best Indian superhero movie ever made.

14.  One, the leader of Autobots and the other, the leader of their arch nemesis, the Decepticons. While Megatron tries to turn Earth to ashes, Optimus is sworn to protect his human friends, despite all odds.

15. An honest American police officer fights an international German terrorist in the best Christmas movie series of all time.

16. This is a story of two brothers, both born to be kings, while only one can. Marvel’s adaptations of these Norse Gods is nothing short of an epic.

17. A blind Ninja and a billionaire, both with different ideas of saving New York, engage in a warpath willing to sacrifice everything they have.

18. Gandalf and Saruman are both wizards, sworn to protect middle earth from all evil. The problem arises when Saruman becomes evil.

 19. Two of the greatest pirate captains, the seas have ever known, are often entangled in their personal rivalries for the ownership of the Black Pearl. And they are both hilarious.

20. The modern day Indian hero-villain duo are both great warriors, skilled in all forms of warfare. While Baahubali, like his father, is good and kind, Bhallal Dev is an evil man, corrupted by power.

It is not difficult to tell what makes these characters such great duos. They are almost always evenly matched and are never out of resources. The only thing that sets them apart is that one of them simply has higher moral boundaries.
