Monday blues slowing you down? Happens. Every once in a while, even the most effervescent people around need a little sunshine to pep them up. Here’s a list of 10 things you could do that’ll quickly get you going.
1. Smile, and more often
No, don’t walk into a room fake-smiling at every person whose eyes meet yours. But smile genuinely ... smile from the inside. Smile, for yourself. Smile, at yourself. It may sound stupid, but really, look into the mirror and give yourself that attention. And do that more often, until it becomes second nature. :)
2. Concentrate on your positives
It’s ok to be a little narcissistic, especially when you realize you need that burst of optimism to get you going. After all, you are the most interesting person around. Yes, I'm talking exclusively about you. You awesome person.
3. Look for beauty in all things
When pessimism casts its spell, vision gets blurred. Even the nicest looking women turn into ugly bi*@#%#!, because the boyfriend was … chuck it. You know how the story goes. The point is, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Lo and behold all things beautiful.
4. Fake it till you make it
Optimism brings more optimism, leading you to … undying optimism. Let optimism be your goal, until it becomes a way of life.
5. Surround yourself with optimistic people
We’ve learnt from motivational speaker Jim Rohn that we’re an average of the five people we spend most of our time with. So there, you know what to do now.
6. Feed the cat
Or the dog. Or the bird. Or, simply spend some time with them. There’s so much love and ‘happy vibes’ that animals exude … it’ll surely and instantly up your mood and change your outlook towards life. Plus, good karma.
7. Be your own hero
Assume that you’re the ONLY ONE who can make or break your day. That way, you’ll be left with nothing or no one else to blame, if today didn’t work out. But it will, trust yourself. Superhero mode, activated.
8. Steer-clear of clutter, or none
A cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind. And Einstein raised a good point with empty desks too. What, then, should one do, you’d ask. While your desk is a reflection of your personality, it’s also a space where you gain your inspiration from. So set your desk up with motivational quotes, happy visuals, or even indoor plants … anything and everything that’ll bring back that joie de vivre.
Especially when you’re feeling pessimistic. The dose of 'feel good’ hormones is going to leave you with that zest of a little child left in a room full of goodies. If you’re a runner, you’ve probably experienced ‘runner’s high’ already. And boy, doesn’t that make running super-addictive? So lace up!
10. Take a nap
20-30 minutes, no more. If you don't wake up fresh as a daisy, with a new outlook on life, ready to conquer everything fate throws at you, tackling every problem head-on, and obliterating everything that tries to get you down; that's okay - you can always deal with it tomorrow.
So don’t let pessimism hold you back. Because life is beautiful, and it has much to offer … only if we’re ready to receive, that is :)
