We’re a country that believes in strong-willed heroes, and to love and celebrate them. That said, the truest among them don’t wish to be celebrated at all. They just do what they do because it’s the only way they know. And through their new presentation ‘Invincible Indians‘, Bajaj V is on a mission to make the stories of these Indians heard in an effort to inspire you and me. Invincible Indians is the same presentation that brought us the stories of Ambulance Dada and Medicine Baba – stories that were loved and watched by people numbered in millions.
And, now, we urge you to watch the stories of four other incredible Indians. We assure you, you’d agree that we don’t use the word ‘Heroes’ lightly.
Pravin Tulpule a.k.a. Happy Uncle
In 1999, this ex-Navy officer was asked to dress as a clown and entertain cancer patients. He didn’t refuse. The next morning, he was deeply saddened upon learning of the death of one of the kids in attendance. When they told him how he helped fulfill the kid’s dying wish of watching a clown perform live, he found a new calling in making people laugh. Since that day, he’s performed more than 4000 shows in schools, old age homes, and hospitals. He never asked for a dime in return.
Girish Bharadwaj a.k.a. The Bridgeman
A Padma Shri awardee who lives in one of the many villages of India that are aloof from civilization. Separated from the more urbanized cities and towns by water bodies, the people of his village had a hard time getting medical aid and other crucial supplies. His fellow-villagers believed in him and asked him to construct a connecting bridge for them. And so, the mechanical engineer became a self-taught civil engineer, collected donations and came through with what was expected of him. He then went on to connect numerous other villages to cities via bridges across the southern states of India. He believes these bridges connect people to not just civilization but also their hopes and dreams. And we believe him.
Dadarao Bilhore a.k.a. Pothole Dada
When this humble vegetable vendor lost his son to one of the thousands of potholes in Mumbai Roads, grief was the only color he knew. Determined to save others from suffering the same fate, he knocked on the doors of various Government offices for help but to no avail. That’s when he decided to take matters into his own hands and, one by one, started leveling the potholes of Mumbai. Before long, a network of friends and noblemen formed and the roads of Mumbai became that much safer to drive on.
Gurmangal Dass a.k.a. Guru
It’s common knowledge that Punjab has been battling the menace of drugs for years now. When this sports coach heard stories from his Dad about just how dire the situation really is, he was reminded of the age old adage, ‘Prevention is better than cure’. Even without any financial aid or playgrounds, he didn’t give up and worked day and night, collecting funds. Because of his efforts, now more than 4000 kids from 40 villages are playing sports instead of doing drugs. 19 of them have even represented India in International football tournaments.
And if these determined and solid Indians have managed to reignite your inner spirit to do good and make a difference, both we and Bajaj V urge you to not just think about it but actually do it.
