In a horrific incident, a woman in Delhi, Munni Devi, went so far as killing her own daughter to keep her extra marital affair a secret.

According to the Hindustan Times, Munni and her lover, Sudhir planned to kill the daughter after she saw them in a compromising position and threatened to tell the father about it.

The incident took place in East Delhi’s Ghazipur area on Wednesday night. Munni lived with her husband and three children. Sudhir sneaked into Munni’s house while her husband was away for drinks in a nearby liquor shop.

When Sudhir came into the house, the sons were busy watching television in another room. However, the daughter, Kajal, saw them together.

As per the investigation, the couple lured the child to a neighbour’s terrace and on reaching there, the mother held her while Sudhir slit the child’s throat with a knife.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Omvir Singh said:

“The woman had an extra marital affair with Sudhir for some time. She later planned the murder of her daughter with him after the child found them in a compromising position on Wednesday evening . The man slit the girl’s throat, while the mother held on to her hands. Both have confessed to their crime during interrogation.”

To get herself out of the suspicion radar, Munni then went to the neighbours and complained of her missing daughter. She even joined her husband and neighbours in searching for the girl.

The police was called in to help at 10 PM on Wednesday. After an extensive search, the police found her on the neighbour’s terrace late into the night at 1:30 AM.

The girl was taken to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. A murder case was subsequently registered at Ghazipur police station.

A police officer said:

“Initially, the girl’s mother was very calm during investigation. However, during further probe, we became suspicious about her role because neighbours informed us that she was having an affair with Sudhir who lived in the same neighbourhood. Both were interrogated and they confessed to the crime.”

The police arrested the 29-year-old woman and her partner, Sudhir, 23, on Thursday. The mother had initially told the sons that the daughter had been taken away by ghosts.
