Let’s face it. At some point in our lives, almost all of us have dreamt of becoming our own bosses. It doesn’t matter if it’s for comfort or just for the appeal. Unfortunately, the reality is that many of us fail to take the risk and don’t venture out. Our reasons to not do this are plenty, yet we write off our ideas without even trying. The world has changed and so have our possibilities. No longer do we need to have the “experience” to make it big.
So what’s stopping you? Take the plunge and do what you’ve always wanted to do and start now, start young. Here are 8 reasons why you should consider starting something of your own in your 20s.
1. Because most iconic entrepreneurs started in their 20s.
Bill Gates was 20 when he created Microsoft, as was Mark Zuckerberg when he created Facebook in his dorm room. If they can, why not you!
2. Because you have nothing to lose.
You don’t have any responsibilities on you, no lifestyle to maintain. You can simply put in all your effort and time in your own idea and spend sleepless nights executing it. Persevere and you can achieve what you dream.
3. Because, in your 20s, you view problems differently.
You will try and find creative solutions to existing problems; solutions that might be improbable but not impossible.
4. Because, in your 20s, you’ve got all the time in the world to try and try until you succeed.
It’s not necessary that your first venture would be a success story, but if it isn’t then the most important thing about it is what you’ve learnt during that period, rather than the failures associated with it.
5. Because experience is not everything.
Not being from the same industry or having zero experience is an added advantage – Why? Simply because you can see the existing flaws and you have a different perspective about things.
6. If you’re confident about your idea, nobody will pass you off as an enthu cutlet.
In our country, many 20-somethings have created and executed brilliant ideas that have proven to be a success. The days of people undermining the ideas of a 20-year-old are now gone. Case in point, Ritesh Agarwal was just 17 when he started his own business venture, Oyo Rooms.
7. From management to finance, your business will teach you everything.
The biggest advantage of starting early and doing your own thing is that you learn everything. Be it accounting, marketing to even basic administration skills.
8. Because you can take risks. And that too a lot of them.
You are a 20-something, you don’t need to care about the realities of life. You don’t need to settle down. You need to explore the possibilities of making a dent in the universe.
