In an unusual case, a woman has been denied anticipatory bail by a Mumbai sessions court for posting nude pictures of her ex-girlfriend on the internet.
The incident happened in November last year when a 45-year-old employee at a private suburban hospital in Mumbai used a nude picture of her live-in girlfriend as her WhatsApp display picture. The girlfriend was also an employee at the hospital.
According to a Times Of India report, the victim (also 45-years-old) filed a complaint with Navghar police station in Mumbai on February 4 after repeated pleas to the accused to take down the image
As per the police complaint the victim filed, the accused reportedly took the photograph of the victim when she was in the bathroom, unawares, after the accused started suspecting the victim of losing interest in her, Mid Day reported.
According to reports, the victim also discovered that the accused had been using her (victim’s) pictures and passing them as her own on social media platforms for over a year.
Following a fight regarding the leaked photo, the accused allegedly threatened to use the image to malign the victim’s image.
A case has been filed under the Information Technology Act and under sections 345, 506, 509 of the IPC for outraging the modesty of a woman and for criminal intimidation.
The accused has pleaded guilty in court.
