A giant of alternative rock music passed away yesterday, and most people can’t really put their feelings into words. Chester Charles Bennington, the lead singer of Linkin Park committed suicide yesterday at the age of 41. His voice really made the soundtrack to our growing years, it carried us through times of frustration, it helped some of us understand the world. Most importantly though, listening to his range and his fierce delivery was a way to let go, which is what we have to do now. And what better way than through the music that he created.
Here are some Linkin Park songs that might help ease the pain.
1. Somewhere I Belong
I want to let go of the pain I felt so long
A song that really connected with a chunk of the disenchanted youth, but this line feels pretty ominous now.
2. Crawling
I remember belting this one out with friends at the top of my lungs. Good times.
3. Numb
I’ve become so numb, I can’t feel you there
Become so tired, so much more aware
The chorus to this song is timeless, just like Chester.
4. Papercut
The first song off their seminal album, Hybrid Theory. This one will always be special.
5. What I’ve Done
I’ll face myself to cross out what I’ve become
Erase myself
And let go of what I’ve done
6. One Step Closer
Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I’m about to break
7. Faint
A hardcore anthem if ever there was one.
8. Bleed It Out
This track saw a breakaway from the usual stylings of of their music, and it’s something I was glad for.
9. Burn It Down
This song saw a return to original form for the band, and it was glorious.
10. In The End
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
These words suddenly take on a whole new meaning. It’s almost too hard to listen to.
It’s heartbreaking to realise he’s not with us anymore.
