The police have registered a case against two women officials of a hostel for HIV-positive patients in Uppal area here for allegedly forcing five minor girls — inmates of the institution — to clean a drainage.

Achyuta Rao, a child rights activist, had submitted a video to the police, purportedly showing some girls cleaning drainage at the hostel run by ‘Ambassadors of Goodwill for AIDS Patients Everywhere’ (AGAPE), an NGO.

Police yesterday arrested the hostel warden V Prajavathi and supervisor G Elavarasan. Both women were released on bail after they were produced in the court today, said inspector Narasimha Reddy.

A case under section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act (subjecting children to cruelty) has been registered against them.

A senior police official however said that inmates of the hostel themselves hadn’t made any complaint against the two women, and in fact vouched for the facilities provided to them.
