In yet another incident of racism against the North-eastern, a group of students from Manipur were allegedly asked to produce a proof of their nationality before entering Taj Mahal, reported Indian Express.

According to the report, a group of students who were on a national tour, on Sunday reached Taj Mahal, where at the entry gates, a CISF personnel asked them to show their ID cards as a proof of their nationality. The personnel told them that they “resembled foreigners” were trying to pass off as Indians for a cheaper ticket.

At Taj Mahal, the entry ticket for Indians is Rs 40 while that for foreigners (except those from SAARC and BIMSTEC) is Rs 1,000.

While the students produced their ID proofs, the personnel wasn’t totally convinced. It was on the interference of another officer that they were later allowed to enter.

However, the students complained about the incident to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), alleging discrimination. The ASI official has now ordered an inquiry into the matter.
