Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s grand-nephew joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Monday, September 29. APJ Sheikh Salim, who is the son of Kalam’s brother met party president Amit Shah who confirmed his membership.

Salim, who works as an importer of shells and diapers from US wanted to join the party in 2014. However, he was unable to do so despite having Kalam’s approval. He also said that he had joined the BJP because he felt it was the only party that could deliver on his granduncle’s vision of India.

Upon being asked about contesting the Tamil Nadu elections next year, Salim said that he wasn’t certain and will let the party decide.
