The Jammu and Kashmir Police is feeling the heat for their action on non-local students at NIT Srinagar following which they were removed from the campus, and replaced by the CRPF.

The situation went from bad to worse when the state’s education minister Naeem Akhtar was quoted telling the media that from recent video clips it appeared to be an issue of ‘police excesses’ and action would be taken against those found guilty.

But the officers completely lost their cool when they were called ‘anti-national’ by students. Angered and frustrated, some officers took to social platforms to tell everyone that they did not need any ‘certificate of nationalism or impartiality’ from anyone.

A Jammu and Kashmir police officer Mubassir Latifi, SSP posted with the crime branch had this to say on his Facebook page :

#‎JKPolice‬ doesn’t need any certificate of nationalism or impartiality from those whose valour doesn’t extend beyond their keypads. J&K Police is a saga of sacrifice and courage and has brought this State out of a madness called terrorism.

Another officer Firoz Yehya, DySP at Baramulla Headquarters, wrote on his Facebook post that the ‘JK Police doesn’t need any certificate from people like Mr.Arnab Goswami.’

He went onto write this:

“Many of my colleagues have been asking and many more must be thinking “whose war are we fighting?”…… All I can tell them is that, this is just another phase and will pass..
We must continue doing the good work within the ambit of law and nothing shall deter us….

On Thursday, the police had released a video to justify its action on the students. The video purportedly shows students smashing cars and vandalising property on campus. The authenticity of the video couldn’t be verified immediately:

However, residents of the Kashmir valley weren’t convinced and many criticised the police for ‘beating up’ students at the NIT campus.

Among them was human rights activist, Khurram Parvez, who wrote on Facebook:

“Hey JK Police, India hires you to kill, brutalize & humiliate people of Kashmir for which you will be awarded & rewarded. You cannot beat your master’s kids for which you will be shown your place by the bosses in Delhi. ‪#‎NITKashmir.”‬
