The activists of ‘Dharohar Bachao Samiti’ pulled down the banners and posters having ‘Welcome to Lahore, Karachi Sweets, Rawalpindi Chaiwala’ written on them. Various other sign boards with Urdu words were also removed. 

Narendra Singh, Sub Inspector, Manak Chowk police station, said the Mumbai-based crew left the venue after the incident. 

“The crew had the requisite permission to shoot in the city. They had put up stickers, banners and posters near Chaar Darwaja and Chandni Chowk area of the four-walled city. When the protesters came to know about it, they asked the crew to stop shooting,” he told PTI.

Production house Good Morning Films was shooting for Volkswagen Polo Hatchback near City Palace, as per an ABP report. The officer said the crew left after the protesters forcefully removed the banners and posters. “They (crew) left after the incident and vowed not to shoot in the city again,” he added.

The officer added that the crew was shooting an advertisement film. Meanwhile, Parth Sharma, patron of the Dharohar Bachao Samiti said, “They had permission but that does not mean they will put up banners above Anand Krishna Bihari temple and Brij Nidhi temple. It was not a short film or advertisement film. So, we talked to the crew members and asked them to discontinue the shooting.” 

No case has been registered in the matter, police added. 

The incident comes three months after Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was attacked by the members of Karni Sena, a fringe outfit in Jaipur while he was shooting for his film Padmavati, at the Jaigarh fort. Bhansali was slapped, pulled him by his hair and his film’s set was vandalised because the protesters alleged that it had ‘distorted historical facts’.
