Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for a three-day visit to Britain. His visit is said to be of great importance between the two countries to further strengthen the relations at political and economic levels.
During the visit, PM Modi apart from holding bilateral talks with his British counterpart David Cameron, will also meet corporate leaders. Hours before leaving for The UK, Modi tweeted.
Leaving for UK. I am hopeful this visit will strengthen economic ties between India and UK & bring more investment to India. #makeinindia— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) November 12, 2015
PM Modi’s visit is the first by an Indian prime minister since 2006.
Here is what PM Modi will do during his high profile visit.
1 – On his arrival in London, PM Modi will receive the Guard of Honour. After that he will hold talks with David Cameron followed by a joint press conference.
2 – Just before arriving at Chequers, the country home of Cameron, Modi will address the British Parliament.
3 – Both the prime ministers are expected to have a joint yoga session also.
4 – PM Modi will also have lunch with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham.
5 – He will also address the Indian community in a massive reception at Wembley, similar to his spectacular outing at New York’s Madison Square Garden last year. It will star over 600 artists and will be attended by some 60,000 people. David Cameron will deliver the welcome speech.
But all is not well…
— Some groups have threatened protests . A group reportedly calling itself ‘Modi Not Welcome’ has planned to hold a protest outside Downing Street during talks with PM Cameron. The group accuses Modi of creating an ‘authoritarian culture’ in India.
— Also some 46 British MPs have signed a parliamentary motion urging Prime Minister David Cameron to raise human rights issues with the the Indian PM.
