Director S S Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ opened to a rousing reception in cinema halls across the country today. As the craze for the film reached a crescendo in the run up to its release, the fans – eagerly waiting to find out why Katappa killed Baahubali – queued up outside the theaterss right from the early hours.

According to a statement issued by online ticket booking site Bookmyshow, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has broken the advance booking record previously held by Aamir Khan’s Dangal. Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas, BookMyShow told Indian Express that they had already sold over 1 million tickets across languages when the bookings had been live for just over a day.

The earlier record of fastest sale of advance online tickets was held by Dangal for shows on Saturday and Sunday when BookMyShow sold over 1 million tickets a day.

The popularity of the film can also be judged from the fact that fans continue to hover around theaters and multiplexes to book their ticket for the multi lingual flick despite the soaring ticket prices that have been more than doubled at certain places. Theaters in South India, where an average movie show costs Rs 150, cinema halls are reportedly charging as high as Rs 400 per person.

Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce (KFCC) President Sa Ra Govindu told PTI that the ticket price of the Prabhas-starrer was anywhere between Rs 120 and Rs 600 and expected to reach close to Rs 900. However, the chamber has been in talks with the government officials to push for refunding the excess amount charged for Baahubali 2 and other films.

The movie has received a stellar response so far. Those who went for the early morning show, have applauded the movie for its content and the extensive visual effects. Some of the fans even compared the film to Hollywood movies.

The Telangana government has allowed five shows of the film to be screened following a request from the producers. The fans of Prabhas, who plays the lead role of Baahubali, put up huge cut outs of the popular star to celebrate the release of the film.

The social media is abuzz with heaps of praise, with many answering the quintessential question, which has now become a national obsession.
