In some disheartening news, a Florida resident recently shared an image of a black skimmer bird feeding her baby chick a cigarette butt. According to Fox News, the image was shared by an individual named Karen Catbird on Facebook.
She also captioned the post,
If you smoke, please don’t leave your butts behind.
Later, she also posted another image which showed the baby bird carrying the cigarette butt in its mouth. She also wrote,
This skimmer chick was offered a cigarette butt by its parent. It’s time we cleaned up our beaches and stopped treating them like one giant ashtray.
The images prompted several responses, with most urging people to clean up after themselves and not throwing their trash wherever they feel like.
According to a report by the Ocean Conservancy, cigarette butts were part of the top 10 trash items collected from beaches globally. It’s time we put a stop to that.
