If you haven’t noticed yet, your Facebook timeline for a while, July 1 to be specific, has been popping up with this voter registration notification.

Well, this is part of Election Commission’s nationwide ‘Voter Registration Reminder’ campaign to encourage eligible voters to register themselves with the EC. From July 1, notification to people on Facebook in India has been rolled out to voters as a reminder in 13 Indian languages.

In association with Facebook, the EC has designed this ‘Register Now’ button that redirects the user on their National Voters’ Services portal where one is guided through the registration process.

The campaign, however, ends on July 4.

“This is a step towards fulfillment of the motto of ECI that ‘No voter to be left behind’. As part of this campaign, on 1st July, 2017, Facebook will run a voter registration reminder in multiple Indian languages to all the Facebook users in India. I urge all eligible citizens to enroll and vote i.e. recognize your right and perform your Duty,” Nasim Zaidi, Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India, said in a statement.

In a bid to engage more voters with the registration process, the ECI for the first time has collaborated with Facebook on a pan-India level that boasts of over 180 million active users.

Previously, similar reminders have been rolled out but in partnership with Chief Electoral Officers during the State elections of 2016 and 2017.
