Today is Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar’s 97th birth anniversary. To mark the day, the yoga guru can be seen on Google home pages in many countries of the world in t hree animated doodles showing off different asanas .
Iyengar created his own brand of yoga, called ‘Iyengar yoga’. He established studios in 72 countries where yoga practitioners are taught ways to improve breathing, concentration and meditation. He practiced yoga until two months before he died on 20 August, 2014, in Pune, and even did headstands in his 90s.
