Following I&B and Urban Development minister Venkaiah Naidu’s resignation (following his vice presidential candidacy), Smriti Irani has been given additional charges of Information & Broadcasting ministry.
It’s a move that has left many surprised. Irani, who Rajya Sabha term ends on August 18, is currently the Union textiles minister, a position she was given in July 2016 after being removed from the more coveted Human Resources Development Ministry.
Here’s how social media reacted to this new appointment.
Her supporters were of course ecstatic!
Smriti Irani given charge of I&B ministry… Good…

She was any day far superior to Javdekar and m very sure she would bring the much required strength and flamboyance to the I &B .

For me, Smriti Irani was a bad choice for HRD ministry, but a great choice for I&B. Winter has arrived for media

However others criticised the move:
Congratulations @smritiirani for getting additional charge of I&B ministry, hope you would handle it as efficiently as the HRD ministry.

Shortage of talent in Bjp? Textile industry needs help, treated as sidey unimportant ministry? One of the largest employers of labor!
