Dinesh Khanna, a photographer living in Gurgaon, lost his pet dog Thumki in April. He, along with his family and friends, made every possible attempt to trace her but couldn’t find any information for weeks. However, a month later, he was reunited with Thumki, thanks to a dog-lover’s compassionate act and the power of Facebook.
Thumki, a 2-year-old off-white desi breed, went missing on April 25 from Gurgaon’s DLF Phase 1. The Khannas put up several posters in their locality to find her, even announcing a reward of Rs 10,000.
They also put out a post on Facebook which got liked and shared by many of their friends and relatives. The same post was shared on several WhatsApp groups too.
But despite all this, the Khannas could not trace Thumki for a month. However, on May 28, they got a message from a man called Pranav saying that he had spotted Thumki near the fence of Central Park apartments in Gurgaon.
Pranav, a dog-lover, had come to Central Park to drop his parents when he spotted Thumki. He recognised the dog from a Facebook post that had been shared by a friend.
On receiving Pranav’s message, Khanna arrived with his daughter and found Thumki, who initially seemed wary but trotted back happily to them when they called her by name.
Khanna later thanked everyone who shared, searched and kept a lookout for Thumki every day of the month that she was lost.
His Facebook post also thanks Pranav for finding her.
I must also add that Pranav, the person who found Thumki refused to accept the Rs. 10,000 award we had offered for finding her and has instead asked us to donate it to “Umeed”, an animal care centre in Gurgaon.
“We’ve witnessed a miracle. But also realised that miracles take concerted and relentless effort to happen,” Khanna said, reports Huffington Post.
