Mixing aggression, wit and barbs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday accused of stalling Parliament because of “jealousy” and “inferiority complex” of its leadership even as he appealed for opposition support for “improving” governance while sidestepping the raging controversies surrounding JNU and Hyderabad University.
In his 75-minute speech in the Lok Sabha, he paid back in sarcasm to the attack, particularly by Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday over various initiatives of his government, including the ‘Make in India’ programme and MNREGA.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to his speech:
PM @narendramodi lacing his LS reply with gentle humour directed at @OfficeOfRG who sits in stony silence, palm as usual covering his face

RG LS intervention successfully draws PM to respond to him. Which he does with dignity & skill. Don’t we just love this brilliant parliament

Today PM @narendramodi has shown the mirror to Congress & other opposition leaders!

Modi Govt suffers from ‘Rahul Phobia’. Yesterday, 3 ministers and today PM’s entire speech laced with barbs then a vision for India.

I think in the history of Indian politics first time any PM has taken Bureaucracy head on … Hats off @narendramodi

PM Modi sends a strong message today. He will focus on Bharat Nirman. He will work tirelessly towards it. Created controversies won’t deter

Modi is treating today’s Power Play as if each and every ball is a free-hit. Keep on counting how many go out of the ground now…

An 8 on 10 ‘performance’ by @PMOIndia ; he truly is a super public debater. Higher marks if he had stayed away from personal attacks.

Positive, witty speech by @PMOIndia trying to break House logjam. But if asking qsns so imp then why not hold your first open presser, sir?

Rahul Gandhi should be happy after @narendramodi speech. Modi gave him so much attention. Replied in same style!

Astute Parliament speech by @narendramodi – some sarcasm, some gravitas, quoting opposition to stump opposition & turn tables & terms
