There have been multiple campaigns to try and get people to stop urinating and defecating in the open. But the Kanpur Nagar district administration has come up with a unique plan to try and stop people. Roping in school kids.
Yep you read that right. The administration is handing over the task of stopping people in the district from urinating in public to children!
In an effort to clean up its district under the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, the administration recently came up with a proposal under which groups of children – ‘vanar senas’ (monkey armys)- will be formed.
They will patrol different areas in the district and shame those attending to nature’s call in the open, either by ringing bells or beating metallic plates presumably to startle them and shame them.
According to patrika.com, an estimated 12,000 community toilets were constructed in different localities, but people simply didn’t use them and instead chose to urinate in the open.
But the kids startling offenders isn’t the only weapon the district administration is banking on to stop this defiling of public property.
The district administration also intends to carry out an intensive drive for spreading awareness on hygiene.
“Children will play an important role in carrying out this ambitious scheme,” Kaushal Raj Sharma, District Magistrate was quoted telling Hindustan Times.
