A day after India struck down ‘terror camps’ in Pakistan, both sides today engaged in a military aerial encounter. Following this, a pilot was apprehended by the Pakistani military and a video of him in the custody of the Pakistani military has been doing the rounds.
India has confirmed that one Pakistan Air Force jet was shot down while India lost a MiG 21 and its pilot went missing.
India later confirmed the missing pilot was in Pakistan custody in a demarche to Pakistan, India has lodged strong protest demanding an immediate release of the IAF pilot.
As soon as the news broke, Twitter erupted asking to bring back the missing pilot. While his identity has not officially been revealed by the government, a video was purportedly released by Pakistan showing the pilot being questioned by the Pakistani authorities.
India has protested the ‘vulgar display’ and here’s what Twitter has had to say.
I really hope the geneva convention is followed. I really pray and hope we get our man back. I urge the leadership of my country to please think through each and every move while Abhinandan breathes behind enemy lines #Maytheforcebewithyou #BringBackAbhinandan @adgpi @PMOIndia

Pakistan must follow Geneva Convention & return Air Wing Commander to India.

It’s clear that Abhinandan was beaten severely.
If Pak doesn’t treat him as a Prisoner of War & follow Geneva Convention then India might get into a full fledged war.#BringBackAbhinandan #Abhinandan pic.twitter.com/x3f81OIAwS
We struck they struck. Let’s end this now. #SayNoToWar

Let’s put our might together to #bringBackAbhinandan. Meanwhile, do not forget this entire tragedy where we have lost 4 lives is because of one man’s failures in all depts, including Kashmir. This is squarely Modi’s failure.
Thoughts & prayers with the missing IAF pilot. Hope he returns safely at the earliest #IndianAirforce

21 opposition parties issue joint statement expressing concern for the safety of India’s missing pilot. Charge the BJP with a “blatant politicization of the sacrifice by our Armed Forces” #BringBackAbhinandan

Dear @ImranKhanPTI : a request not to treat Wing Commander Abhinandan like some ‘prize catch’ to be paraded in his bloodied state on video. You were a cricketer who played by the rules; please treat him with the dignity deserving of a man in uniform.

India will #BringBackAbhinandan No need to cry hoarse. Those who are trying to initiate talks. Even Wing Commander Abhinandan would not like India folding up to terror-harbouring Pakistan to secure his safe custody.

The only thing that matters is the safe return of our Air Force pilot. All efforts should be directed at de-escalation and ensuring his release from Pakistani custody. #BringBackAbhinandan
