An animated short film by Indian-American Sanjay Patel called Sanjay’s Super Team has been shortlisted with nine other titles out of a total sixty films to advance in the voting process for the 88th Academy Awards.

Sixty pictures had originally qualified in the category before the list was pruned to 10. Short Films and Animation Branch members will now select five nominees from the shortlist.

In Sanjay’s Super Team, by Pixar Animation Studios, accomplished artist Sanjay Patel uses his own experience to tell the story of a young, first-generation Indian-American boy whose love for western pop culture comes into conflict with his father’s traditions.

Directed by Sanjay Patel and produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle, Sanjay’s Super Team opens in theaters on December 4, 2015, in front of DisneyoPixar’s The Good Dinosaur. Patel, an Indian-American of Gujarati origin, has used his own experiences to create the film.

Bear Story, Carface, If I Was God…, Love in the time of March Madness, My Home, An Object at Rest, Prologue, We Can’t Live Without Cosmos, and World of Tomorrow are the other nine shortlisted titles. The 88th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland.
