First his contract as the brand ambassador for the Incredible India wasn’t renewed, and now Aamir Khan has reportedly been dropped as brand ambassador by Snapdeal.

An Economic Times report says that the actor who featured in ‘Dil ki deal’ advertisements for the company won’t feature in advertisements for the company any more.

Here’s what those advertisements looked like:

According to the Economic Times report, the company could have extended the actor’s contract by a year and has chosen not to. The company may not pick another celebrity either since its reportedly trying to rationalise ad expenditure, the report said.

However, marketing executives quoted in the same report said that the greater likelihood was that the actor was dropped due to the controversy he sparked with his statements about intolerance in the country. Both the company and the actor haven’t commented on the report.

The company had faced intense criticism after the actor’s comments on intolerance with many calling for the company to drop him as the brand ambassador. Some had even given the app a lower rating and uninstalled it in a bid to put pressure on the company to drop the actor. However, it didn’t affect the app in any way.

The e-commerce company had at the time of the controversy chosen to dissociate itself from the actor and said that the statements he had made were made in a personal capacity.
