Aamir Khan will no longer be the brand ambassador of Incredible India as his term has come to an end. Many have noted that this move came two months after the actor expressed his opinion, or to be precise, his wife Kiran Rao’s opinion on intolerance in India.
Amitabh Bachchan the brand ambassador of Gujarat tourism, is according to multiple reports, the Modi government’s first choice to become the new face of Incredible India. Other celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra are also being considered.
To every action, there is always a (not-so-equal) reaction on social media. Here’s how the argument panned out on Twitter:
new brand ambassador #Incredible India #Amitabh Bachchan @SrBachchan & good bye Mr. #Intolerance khan
— Arindam Das (@dasari911) January 7, 2016Aamir Khan expelled as the Brand Ambassador of Incredible India. I think that’s the first step of India towards becoming Incredible India.
— Aladdin (@Alllahdin) January 6, 2016Supporters of Big B had this to say:
Shatrughan Sinha is going to be trolled big time with Amitabh Bachchan as Incredible India’s Brand ambassador. https://t.co/7r6znni4v3
— Optimist (@DesiOptimystic) January 7, 2016Then there were people who made other suggestions:
I read how @Actor_Siddharth worked during Chennai Floods. For me, he represents Incredible India better than other celebs.
— Rahul Raj (@bhak_sala) January 6, 2016Another person who can be considered for incredible India Ambassador – Nana Patekar
— Ashish Tikoo (@ashishtikoo31) January 6, 2016Amitabh bachchan, Nana Patekar or Akshay Kumar – either of them for Incredible India brand ambassador please..
— Vikrant (@vikrantkumar) January 6, 2016Someone like Amitabh Bachchan or Sachin Tendulkar or A.R.Rahman wud be the true representative of Incredible India brand.
— Boring… (@graphicalcomic) January 6, 2016But then what’s social media without a little bit of sarcasm?
Yes, remove Aamir Khan and make Anupam Kher or Paresh Rawal ambassador for Incredible India, so the world can assume all Indians are stupid.
— lindsay pereira (@lindsaypereira) January 6, 2016Actually, why does India tourism need Aamir Khan or Amitabh Bachchan? If foreigners want to see Bollywood they can do that at home, no?
— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) January 7, 2016If we want to promote India tourism, we should showcase our ancient monuments. Advani, for instance.
— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) January 7, 2016Bhakts: why not start a social media campaign to make Gajendra Chauhan ambassador for incredible India. Sleep on it. Good night
— Saba Naqvi (@_sabanaqvi) January 7, 2016Anupam Kher says he would gladly volunteer to be brand ambassador for Incredible India but his duties as PM leave him with no time at all
— IndiaExplained (@IndiaExplained) January 7, 2016Supporting Aamir Khan & still wanting him to be represnt Incredible India is like giving increment to your driver for sleeping with ur wife
— Ra_Bies (@Ra_Bies) January 7, 2016A nation 65% population less than 35yrs, Govt appoints 80yr old Amitabh Bachchan as mascot of Incredible India. Don’t we have young stars?
— Vinod Mehta (@DrunkVinodMehta) January 7, 2016Then there was comedian Tanmay Bhat, who had no idea that Aamir Khan was the brand ambassador of Incredible India.
RT if you found out that Aamir was the brand ambassador of Incredible India only after the tolerance thingy broke out.
— Tanmay Bhat (@thetanmay) January 7, 2016@Nikunj_075 i had no idea. i’ve seen the incredible india ads, but didn’t feature aamir in them.
