M. Karunanidhi, DMK President and five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, passed away this evening after two days of critical illness.

The news was put forward on the social media through a press release by Kauvery Hospital, Chennai.

According to a report by TOI, Karunanidhi, was suffering from a urinary tract infection and other age-related ailments, and was hospitalized on July 28. His condition was believed to be critical since yesterday.

The charismatic leader is known to have never lost an election in his political career spanning over six decades. He had also made a mark in Tamil art and culture through his book, and dialogues for movies.
PM Modi also expressed his condolences.
