A priest from Kerala, who was abducted last year by the Islamic State in Yemen, has been rescued, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted on Tuesday.

According to a report by NDTV, Father Tom Uzhunnalil, a Catholic priest was kidnapped by ISIS in March 2016 after ISIS attacked an old people’s home run by missionaries in Aden. 16 people, including four Indian nuns, were killed in the attack.

The priest was released after the intervention of the Oman government. He was flown from Yemen to Muscat and from there he has taken a chartered flight, either to New Delhi or to Vatican. The news of his rescue was released by the media in Oman, reports Hindustan Times.
