A video has emerged of a young woman sniper laughing as she narrowly misses a bullet fired by the Islamic State. According to The Sun, a YPJ (Women’s Protection Units) sharpshooter was taking her aim while fighting in the terror group’s Syrian stronghold, Raqqa. Right after she takes her shot, the wall behind her explodes and showers the room in a mist of plaster and dust.

The YPJ is an all-female Kurdish military branch of the of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) to defend from attacks by ISIS militants, the Syrian government, as well as Al-Qaeda. What would have scarred an average human for life, made this woman duck, stick out her tongue, and laugh.

The footage has not yet been verified and was posted online by a Kurdish journalist. The tweet by reporter Hemze Hamza read,

Kurdish women know no fear. Your average human being would be scared for life after being so close to death but she kept laughing.

YPJ played a critical role in rescuing the thousands of Yazidis trapped by ISIS fighters on Mount Sinjar in 2014. Currently, the YPJ is estimated to be a group of 7000 fighters aged 18-40. A US-led coalition is supporting an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters in their assault on Islamic State in its de facto capital of Raqqa in northern Syria.
