Tucked away in Sangli, Maharashtra is India’s only school for sex workers, by sex workers. Madam Bandaval runs her school, in Dusshera Chowk, with dignity and determination. Facing opposition and ridicule, she is the only madam to have started a school in a red light area in India. The goal? Education for everyone, without any discrimination.
Ostracised by society, these women were united by education. Today, thanks to Madam Bandaval, there might be hope for a better tomorrow for them. Submitted as a part of Our Better World’s Good Story Competition , this inspiring story forces us to rethink our attitudes.
