In a bizzare incident, a man named Sumit Bhadana shot himself on his thigh and shoulder in order to frame his landlord in a fake attempt-to-murder case in Delhi’s Amar Colony area, according to the Hindustan Times.

Why did Sumit try to frame his landlord? Well, he wanted to avoid paying ₹2.25 lakh due as rent to his landlord.

Chinmoy Biswal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) said, “Sumit ran a Paying Guest (PG) hostel in a residential building he had rented from Juneja in Amar Colony.”

And, when the police reached the spot they found blood on the floor and two empty cartridges.

In his statement to the police, Sumit said he had an argument with his landlord because he couldn’t pay his rent for six months due to his poor financial situation. He alleged, Juneja fired two rounds on him and ran away.

However, DCP Biswal said, “Juneja denied he opened fire on Sumit and said when he had asked for rent, Sumit suggested he come at 8 PM. He said Sumit was trying to frame him to avoid paying the money.”

Biswal further said that the police found a number of contradictions in Sumit’s narration of events and when Sumit sensed troubled, he ‘escaped’ the hospital as LAMA (Leave Against Medical Advice) while his medical tests were being conducted.

He (Sumit) was later found hiding in his sister’s house in Shastri Nagar. According to the police, Sumit procured a pistol from his friend in Rajasthan and he had worked out a plan to frame his landlord, well in advance.
