Sangeeta Mall, the wife of rifleman Shishir, who was martyred in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir, has joined the Indian Army as an officer.

According to the Times of India, she was commissioned into the army after passing out from the Officers Training Academy in Chennai on Saturday.

She was working as a teacher when Shishir lost his life battling terrorists in the Baramulla sector of Jammu and Kashmir in 2015. After his death, she had quit her job to be at her mother-in-law’s side.
According to reports, she not only had to deal with the tragedy of her husband’s death but she also suffered from a miscarriage.

Speaking to reporters about her ordeal, her brother-in-law, Sushant Mall said:
My mother supported her and encouraged her to study further and do a banking job.

He further adds that Sangeeta became motivated to join the army after she attended an investiture ceremony in Ranikhet in 2016 where her husband was awarded the Sena medal posthumously.
She is also known to have battled depression following the tragic events in her life.

After working hard at the academy and passing out, she had been commissioned in the army as a Lieutenant in the short service commission.
