Nita Ambani, the Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, was nominated last Friday as a candidate to be a member of the International Olympics Committee (IOC), the supreme authority of the Olympic Games, by its Members Election Commission.
As the first Indian Woman to be nominated for this honour, India is now a step closer to recognising the growing prominence of sport in shaping opportunities for the youth and enabling sports to bring a variety of people together.
Ambani has been involved in promoting multiple sports in the country with focus on developing talent through a number of large-scale grassroots level initiatives.
